Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite – everything you ever wanted to know about staying here!
Read this before you go to the Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite, so you know what to expect.
We stayed at the Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite in the Fall just as the colors were starting to turn in Yosemite. Our experience here was exceptional – from the moment we pulled up to the valet area, to the moment we stepped away from the property to go home. We had our 2 little wild toddlers with us, and everyone was so accommodating and had so much fun with them. It was a perfect place for us to come back to after a day at the Yosemite National Park, as well as a perfect place to hang out for the days we didn’t go into the park and explored nearby places.

Places to Eat at the Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite
Tenaya has 6 restaurants/food options – we got to experience 3 of them while we stayed there in the Fall.
We repeatedly went to the deli store, which we could order to-go food from the other 2 restaurants. So convenient if you are with kids who aren’t patient enough to sit at a restaurant! Tony and I got to enjoy amazing burgers from the Jackalopes Bar and Grill from the comfort of our own suite. The deli was also convenient to grab sandwiches before heading out for the day to Yosemite Valley.
The buffet breakfast was at the Sierra Restaurant and perfect before heading out to an all-day excursion. They had pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, great spread of fruits, cheese and meats. Lots of pastries too. My favorite part? They gave the kids Etch-a-Sketch to play with so we could enjoy our breakfast. 🙂
We can’t wait to come back in the summertime, where they have an outdoor BBQ place with live bands!
For all of the dining options check their website here.
Amenities Included with Your Stay at the Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite
Ascent Spa
The Fitness Room, Steam Rooms and Dry Saunas at the Spa of Tenaya Lodge are included with your stay. I got to try these amenities when Tony and I took turns watching the kids. It was the most blissful 30 minutes and the robes they provide there was like wrapping fluffy clouds around your body. So cozy.
Indoor and Outdoor Pools
Despite having that crisp Fall air when we went, the boys went in the outdoor pool. 🙂 Tony went in the hot tub during his own little getaway. The indoor pool is also gorgeous, and so nice to have during the colder months!
The Arcade Family Room
Unfortunately when we went, it was under renovation – good news for you, it will be that much better when you go there because it will be newly renovated! We will update this when we go back again and it’s open.
Free Valet Parking + Luggage Service
This was so nice, especially with 2 kids! We had the crazy amount of luggage, half of the contents spilling out… and everyone greeted us with a smile and happily helped us. Can’t beat that!
Additional Amenities at the Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite
Where do I begin!? There are so many things to do here at the Lodge! Here are some highlights, but for everything they offer, check the Tenaya Lodge’s activities page.
Nature (Day) and Flashlight (Night) Hikes
This looked like so much fun! It was for a little older kids than us, so we couldn’t participate but these hikes are daily. We did go on the nature trail that’s right off of the property for an afternoon fun on our own!
Tours of Yosemite
They have an All-Day Yosemite Tour and Glacier Point Starry Skies Tour. While we did not take the tours, we heard others who went on it that they had a great time! The Glacier Point Starry Skies tour must be so gorgeous!
The Spa
The spa menu is pretty impressive, and you may not even need reservations. They have anywhere from nails to massages. Can’t wait to go back and try this also. If I weren’t there with kids, this by itself can be an all-day activity!
Kids Specific Activities and Amenities at the Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite
S’Mores
You may be guessing that we love s’mores. Yes, we do! And they have them here. All season long. Request them at the concierge and they have them available for purchase. Just walk outside to the firepit and roast away.

Kids Obstacle Course & Rock Climbing Wall
Our kids were a little too young for this, this looked like so much fun!
Kids Camp
So many different activities for the kids! For ages 5 and up.
Holidays and Seasonal Activities at the Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite
After hearing about all that Tenaya Lodge offers during the holidays and the summer time, we are definitely coming back!
When we went (in the Fall), there was a little pumpkin patch display by the large outdoor fire pit where we had s’mores. (They have s’mores kits available.)
The holiday times here seem magical!! They will have a gigantic tree in the lobby. What got me to say “ok, we will come back in the winter!” was their gingerbread house decorating. They have this really long hallway and they have a long table full of candy to use to decorate the house!! Dinner with Santa, ornament decorating, and more! Sounds like a dream. Check their events calendar for specifics.
In the winter, they also have a sledding area where kids can sled. I got to see where the skating rink will be in the winter, and it’s surrounded by gorgeous redwoods.
In the summer time, they have outdoor BBQ, outdoor movie nights, and of course, all of the pools!
Rooms and Cabins at the Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite
There are 240 rooms and 57 cottages at the Tenaya Lodge, and each one is decorated and filled with Yosemite themed decor. You should check out all of the different types of rooms to see which one fits best for your stay!
We stayed at the Spa Suite and it was perfect for us with two little kids. There was a separate sitting room, where we could close off the bedroom when the kids went to sleep and hang out. We loved the bar area and a big fridge too! We also had gorgeous views of the trees from our room.
What’s really exciting is the brand new cabins that will be available next summer! 2 bedroom cabins are a notch above (ok, maybe few notches above) glamping and you will have your own little house in the woods. Each one will have a living room, fridge, fireplace, 2 rooms, and a deck. We can’t wait to go back and stay in one of these!
Things to Do Near the Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite
Mariposa Grove
Maybe about 10-15 minutes away from Tenaya Lodge by car, is Mariposa Grove. You can actually see the giant sequoia trees that reside at Mariposa Grove from the Tenaya Lodge! In an easy 2 mile round trip hike, you will see the Giant Grizzly, one of the oldest living sequoia trees, a gigantic fallen and uprooted sequoia tree, and the California Tree Tunnel, which is a living tree tunnel you can walk through!
Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad
Not even a 10 minute drive away, this railroad has two types of trains running pretty much daily depending on the season! They also offer gold panning and has a railroad museum too.
Yosemite National Park
This park needs no introduction – it’s simply magical. The entrance is close to the Mariposa Grove, so it is about a 15-minute drive to the entrance. Yosemite Valley is a little further away, and it’s about an hour by car from Tenaya Lodge.
We spent an entire day there biking around and checking out viewpoints. A post on all that we did to come soon!
There you have it!
I hope our pictures and words show how much fun we had at Tenaya Lodge as a family! They have something for all seasons, and we can’t wait to go back again soon!
