Check out this in-depth review and guide of the Andiron Seaside Inn & Cabins – cottages on the Mendocino Seaside – before you go so you know what to expect! We saw deer when we arrived late at night, woke up to the sound of birds chirping, all the amenities in the right place, kids couldn’t get enough of the goats and we never had the chance to check out the hot tub, archery or the secret beach. 2 nights there just wasn’t enough!

Fun Things on the Property at the Andiron Seaside Inn & Cabins
Toast Bar
This morning treat exceeded my expectations. They had me at homemade apple butter. So many other things to choose from too. They also had fruits and fresh eggs (not cooked).
Weekend Happy Hour
This was a great opportunity to meet our neighbors and also let the kids play with the goats. I am all for being able to drink wine inside of a fenced goat area. Oh, and the cheese fondue! Can’t forget the cheese fondue they had.
Goats (Peanut Butter, Cocoa, and Sugar) & Chickens
Probably our kids highlight. They could’ve stayed with the goats all day, but I had to put a stop to it when Andrew got fixated on the poop and insisted on playing with it (he is 14 months). It was fun while it lasted. 🙂 They have brushes there to brush the goats and they are as friendly as can be. They were so cute, they *almost* made me want to get pet goats. They could fit in our San Francisco backyard, right? Maybe when Andrew is old enough to understand poop is not a toy…
Soccer (Bring Your Own Ball) and Playing Around in the Big Grass Area
It’s officially not advertised or encouraged by the Inn, but we had fun kicking around our ball in the big wide green space they had.
Badminton & Play Area
There is a badminton net, and other fun play things right by there. We loved climbing the tree stumps too. Can’t beat a nature’s playground!
S’Mores & Fire Pit
Look at these cute s’mores kits! File it under one more thing we didn’t get to do! We spent a good long afternoon at our cabin too. Another sign that we need more than 2 nights there.
Hot Tub
We are so sad we never got to check this out! Tony and I said both days that we would sneak away (with a baby monitor) after bedtime to go, but both nights we were so tired, we went to bed at the same time as the kids. 🙂 You will have to go yourself to check it out!
Secret Beach
About a quarter mile North of the Inn, is a secret beach. Find info on it in the welcome book of your cabin, or asking about it at the happy hour, toast bar, or check in!
Archery
This is out for the summer/fall and the non-rainy months. We missed out, but sounds like fun!
Movie Nights
In the summer, there are guest-selected movie nights. The stage has lights, movie screen, and sound system. More of a reason for us to go back!
Star Gazing
We had so much fun looking at the stars and the moon with Henry. It was our first time where he actually sat still and we talked and watched the night sky. He’s so grown up now! Such a nice treat when you live in an urban jungle of San Francisco where we don’t get to see this many stars!
Amenities at the Andiron Seaside Inn & Cabins
Fresh Ground Coffee
Oh I was so happy to see coffee beans and a grinder when we arrived. We are hooked. Off to go purchase a coffee bean grinder now…
Handmade Goodies
When we got there, we also saw homemade rice krispie treats. Andrew got to try his first rice krispie treat in the morning! So spoiled that it was a homemade one…
Fresh Eggs & Popcorn
This isn’t in the room, but you can grab fresh eggs from their chicken at the office and cook it in your cabin (most cabins have a kitchenette)! They also have popcorn bags you can pop too.
Kitchenette
Our kitchenette in the Curious cabin was perfect – we meant to BBQ one night and bought fish and sausages and ended up being too tired so cooked it on the stove. It came out still delicious! Our fridge was a normal size fridge, which was perfect for our family of 4 to fit all the milk, beer, wine, snacks and dinner in.
BBQ
Our cabin came with a BBQ (charcoal) and there were other BBQs on the property also. They may have charcoal but best bet is to purchase your own (closest store is about a mile away) to be prepared. They have the BBQ tools that you will need. We didn’t end up BBQing, but we loved having a picnic on our porch with what we made in the kitchenette!
DVDs & TV
They have 100s of DVDs at the office – go check one out! Or they have regular channels on the TV also. Didn’t look into it too much. We never really got around to laying down to watch TV!
Games
Our cabin had some games, and the office has some games too. Perfect for older kids!
Cabins at the Andiron Seaside Inn & Cabins
There are 12 cabins at the Andiron, and each one is decorated and filled with fun and quirky way. You should check out all of them to see which one fits your personality!
We stayed at the Curious and Curious-er. They are 2 cabins that can be adjoined, and it was perfect for our family of 4 that like to have a door to close off the door when the kids go to bed. Fun things in these cabins were the magic 8 ball, telescopes, binoculars, and lots of games. There were so many more fun things to look at – if we were there without kids, we probably could’ve looked at everything. 🙂 Both cabins had a fireplace. The kids also loved finding different animals in the rooms – we found dogs, elephants, and birds. A scavenger hunt in our own cabin! 🙂
Things to Do Around the Andiron Seaside Inn & Cabins
Fort Bragg is about a 15-minute drive, and the town of Mendocino was about a 5-minute drive. Boonville, where a lot of wineries and breweries is about 45 minutes away, a perfect stop during your drive to/from San Francisco. We had so much fun exploring the Glass Beach area, Mendocino Botanical Gardens, going on the Skunk Train, and checking out Penny Royal Farms!
